چکیده

We demonstrate subwavelength spatial resolution with a scanning microlens operating in collection mode with a large-area detector. Optical contrast is created by refraction of off-axis light rays at angles larger than the maximum collection angle. With a microfabricated silicon microlens 10 mm in diameter, we measure spatial resolution due to refraction contrast of l/4.3 at a wavelength of l510.7 mm. A model based on ray tracing is developed to explain our result, and we show that lens diameter and index of refraction limit resolution for large emission and collection angles. © 2001 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1377318#

Design and optimization of microlens array based high resolution beam steering system.

High-resolution imaging and beam steering using 3 microlens arrays (MLA) is demonstrated. Small lateral displacement of one microlens array is sufficient for large angle beam steering. A prescan lens is added to the system to overcome the discrete addressing problem associated with microlens scanning systems. A hybrid method that uses both geometrical ray tracing optimization and physical optic...

Silicon microlens structures fabricated by scanning-probe gray-scale oxidation.

We report on the micromachining of silicon microlens structures by use of scanning-probe gray-scale anodic oxidation along with dry anisotropic etching. Convex, concave, and arbitrarily shaped silicon microlenses with diameters as small as 2 microm are demonstrated. We also confirm the high fidelity of pattern transfer between the probe-induced oxides and the etched silicon microlens structures...

Large - field - of - view , multi - perspective Talbot microscopy

Common microscope objectives have fields of view (FOVs) of less than a few millimeters because of limits imposed by optical aberrations. To scale up the FOVs, additional lens elements and heroic design efforts are required to compensate for the aberrations, leading to reduced transmissions and higher system costs. Such FOV limitations have thus become amajor bottleneck in microscopy for large-s...

Microscopy with microlens arrays: high throughput, high resolution and light-field imaging.

We demonstrate highly parallelized fluorescence scanning microscopy using a refractive microlens array. Fluorescent beads and rat femur tissue are imaged over a 5.5 mm x 5.5 mm field of view at a pixel throughput of up to 4 megapixels/s and a resolution of 706 nm. We also demonstrate the ability to extract different perspective views of a pile of microspheres.
